The Bell Rock Lighthouse
A downloadable game for Windows
Nowhere is man's struggle against nature greater than at sea and the lighthouse, the Bell Rock in particular, must surely be one of man's crowning successes against this deadly side of mother nature that has claimed so many lives. So we invite you to grab a cup of coffee sit back and learn how one of the marvels of the industrial age was constructed in this relaxing cozy builder experience.
INSTRUCTIONS - Use the mouse and WASD keys to control the camera. Top right icon switches to a different camera mode which you control by moving the cursor to the edges o the screen and with WASD keys. Quickly switch cameras by using the navigation icons at the bottom of the screen. The time slider allows you to speed up or slow down the construction process.
Parts and men for the lighthouse will be delivered by boat to the rock and must then direct the men to work on construction. The first job is building a jetty, next is construction of the beacon house followed by the railway and finally the tower itself. Drag a box around a man or men then click on a build area to set them to work.
Work will stop when the tide gets too high and begin again when it has dropped.
The latest build has cheat buttons in the top right, one that will deliver new materials and the other will set the men to work.
Pause over a worker to get a little information on them. All characters in the game are based on the actual workers that built the lighthouse.
You can also access a book by pressing 'B' which has some of the drawings used to construct the lighthouse as well as more information on the the construction process. Pressing 'M' will show a map of the lighthouse and it's location of the coast of Arbroath.

Nearly everything in the game was created using the reference pictures you see in the book so should be pretty accurate. The rocks the lighthouse stands on were modelled based on the survey carried out by Stevenson.
There is still plenty more to come so drop us a follow.

This looks simply amazing and so calm and relaxing to watch. Cannot wait for the finished game so I can actually build the lighthouse. Amazing.
It is difficult to put in just a few sentences how I felt about this game. I'll share a link of my live reaction to it later, but suffice to say, I was completely swept away by this wonderful interactive experience. "Ambitious" doesn't even scratch the surface of it. This game is a masterpiece which means those involved in making it are truly something special.
I would like to share this game with the "99% Invisible" community. If you haven't heard of them, they're a show all about the built world around us. I feel like this is something they need to hear about.
I'm grateful I got a chance to play this game. If you'd like to watch my live reaction to it, it can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2583986759?t=00h34m59s
That is hugely kind of you. We both really appreciate your comments. Had a lot of fun doing something new.
As you know I loved your game, it is extremely slick, solid and polished and great fun to play. Best of luck with it, I do hope you continue to develop it. I will keeping an eye on it.
Thanks again. Best of luck.
