BIG AIR DESERT RALLY IS NOW ON STEAM!

PLEASE WISHLIST. IT MEANS A LOT.

Race across the desert in this side view(ish), full 3D 'HillClimb' genre type game.

Huge jumps, stunning visuals.

Please Help us out by Wishlisting this on Steam

We want to take the fun and excitement of the Desert Rally Raids and try and turn it into a simple, fun and entertaining racing game. The game in its current form does not require you to steer, other then when in the air to correct your car for a smooth landing, but is more about handling the rough terrain and jumps so to minimize the damage sustained.

It should be noted that this is a GameJam game and was created in 2 weeks so doesn't fully reflect what the game-play will be, we have much more to add.

B.A.D.R. is a unique racing game that challenges the player to drive as fast as they can across the desert whilst trying to avoid destroying their car.  As with Desert Raids it isn't about how you take corners but how to deal with the terrain.  You must balance speed with caution as you challenge the terrain. Take a risk and race hard and fast but be sure to land those big or drive more cautiously and preserve your car.

The car wont ever die on you but it will become very slow!

Game Features

  • Hand Designed Levels as well as infinite procedural levels
  • Car Damage System
  • Watch Race Replays
  • Multiple Cameras
  • 7 Different Environments
  • 5 Cars, some with multiple paint jobs.

Keep a close eye on your fuel level and the state of your car. Battle to reach the end of the day and the bivouac where you can rest and repair some damage before the next day’s challenge.

This demo was created in 2 weeks for #JernJam3

The game uses one asset, Enviro for the lighting, but other than that everything else was wriiten for the Jam. The Fatsun, the Mactini and the VW camper are old ones taken from our main game but for the jam we did make an all new car as the starter car, the Rayno 4. We did also start a truck but didn't have time to unwrap or texture it.  All other artwork, GUI and coding was created specifically for the Jam.

Having zero knowledge of music and sound these were 3rd party assets.

If you want to look like John the T-shirt and hat are available on the merch store.

Get your Big Air merch here.

Note: Curently this game is best played with a GamePad (ideally XBox controller, I will do an update as soon as I can to add more options, but mouse and cursor keys should do you till then)

Do you plan to release full game also on itch.io?

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be available on itch as well.

weird camera angle, cant steer car, maybe try a 3rd person camera like.

Check the controls images on the main page, you can change camera views with page up and down, or press F1 to a different camera mode where you can position it as you please.

Its a hillclimb style game so steering in this version is not really a thing, the levels are straight, you can steer to control attitude in the air of catch the cars if they get unstable. Later levels will have the ability to change lanes and steer but this is a very very early version done for a Jam so expect a lot of changes and improvements as it progresses.

A new version has been uploaded with over 100 improvements.

OMG! O M G !  What a stunning game!
I managed to get to the last challenge. The only thing I didn't know how to do was fix my car XD. When I tried switching cars mid race to get around being damaged it still had the damage remembered on the other cars which was nice.
Fantastic menus and credit screen also. I also loved all the hud stats and map of the race which was subtle but helpful.

I enjoyed most the replay camera. It worked perfect. It was a blast seeing everything sped up or slowed down from different angles and in different levels.
When I would replay the camera for example sped up then the next level I played would be in also sped up mode. This might be a bug ? or a feature cause sped up driving was really fun.

I am gonna give it another go after the jam when the updates come and I cannot wait!

Wow thanks Mel for the lovely review and for obviously really diving into the game I really really do appreciate it and cool screenies. There are a number of issues which we are addressing now but you have found a new one so on the list it goes :) We hope to have an improved version to upload after voting has closed.

We have never done Jam before and it has been a lot of fun, very useful and very rewarding. I think Chris will need a little time to recover, always harder on the programmer, but pretty sure by next year I can persuade him to do it again and I think we will try something completely different.

Anyway thanks again and hopefully today we can make some time to check out all the other games.

Looking forward to the next build and wish a speedy recovery!

Mels, it's so nice to read your comment, it means an awful lot coming from someone with your talents. I mean just look at what you did on Jern's SHART game :)

There is so much wrong in the demo due to the deadline and having to get something out that I can't watch it being played at the moment, so busy working on an update to make it something I am happy with so do check back later.

Thanks for the screenies as well, I think the replay mode is my fav bit at the moment, its much better with more interesting levels, the fun bit of the game is getting the big jumps right.

My fav part was yeah the jumps, creating max smoke, taking over the cars and I enjoyed seeing my car falling apart, so well done.
